What Will The 2021/22 Ski Season Look Like?

Last year, the ski season was defined by social distancing, on-mountain reservations and mask mandates. This year, almost two years into a pandemic, things look both the same and largely different. As we embark on our favorite season—ski season—we wanted to check in with some of our favorite destinations to find out what to expect when we head to the mountains. Read on for the 411 on everything you need to know before making your first turns. After all, it's always good to be prepared. See you on the hill.

Aspen Snowmass will be operating at full capacity with no reservation system. While guests are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated, it is not required for lift access, rental shops, or ticket offices. However, guests ages 12 and older are required to show proof of vaccination for all Aspen Snowmass-owned restaurants. Masks are not required while skiing or snowboarding but are required indoors.

Vail will not have a mountain-reservation system this season and will operate lifts and gondolas at full capacity. Face coverings won’t be required outdoors, in lift lines, or on chairlifts or in gondolas. Guests will be required to book a reservation and show proof of vaccination for on-mountain dining.

Mammoth Mountain does not have capacity restrictions, reservation requirements, or limits on lift ticket sales for the ’21/22 winter season. Walk-up lift ticket sales will be available, but it’s encouraged to purchase lift tickets in advance. Proof of vaccination is not required to access the resort at this time. All guests and employees must wear a mask in public, indoor spaces.

Jackson Hole will continue to operate with a reservation system this season. Guests are required to wear face masks in all indoor spaces, including the tram. Outdoor spaces—including the base area and lift lines—will not require masks. To manage daily capacity limits, lift tickets are available for purchase in advance in limited numbers.

Park City will not have a reservation system this season, and lifts and gondolas will operate at full capacity. Masks are required indoors, but not outdoors, such as in lift lines, on chairlifts, or in gondolas. Guests ages 12 and older will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination for on-mountain dining.

Sun Valley will not ask guests to make reservations but encourage purchasing lift tickets online in advance to guarantee a spot on the mountain, as there are daily caps on the number of lift tickets sold. Guests are required, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a face covering while in indoor public spaces.
