Serving as the brand’s first-ever physical retail space prior to opening its first brick and mortar store in 2013, the original AETHERstream trailer was a roving pop-up shop that spent over-a-decade on the road, crisscrossing the country and making stops in everything from major cities to small mountain towns. In 2024, the custom-built Airstream was involved in a collision and was ultimately deemed a total loss. This unfortunate incident kicked off a more-than-year-long design and fabrication process that would eventually give way to the all-new AETHERstream 2.0.

To bring this ambitious design to fruition, AETHER called on ALAMESA Studio, which was responsible for the trailer’s overall development and design. Los Angeles–based fabrication company Firecracker Works worked hand-in-hand with ALAMESA Studio to execute on its blue prints and bring the design to life.

The ultimate airstream-turned-mobile store.

Carrying forward the spirit of its predecessor, the new Airstream trailer was gutted and stripped down to a shell before being custom-built from the ground up. The new build utilizes a combination of oak veneer and hardwood that beautifully balances strength and lightness. This material selection is further elevated via the use of custom LED lighting throughout, along with bespoke stainless steel fixtures and hang bars.

Outfitted with an electronic motor and hydraulic arms, the roughly 12-foot-long hatch can be electronically raised or lowered at the touch of a button.

The AETHERstream 2.0 represents the brand’s continued connection to its roots, core values, and general design philosophy, with an unrelenting focus on mobility, exploration, and design-driven functionality.
