Travel Spotlight: Japan's Hoshinoya Fuji Resort

Love a good outdoor adventure but also appreciate the convenience and comfort of a hotel when you’re far from home? We do too, which is exactly why Hoshinoya Fuji in Japan has us scanning travel sites for plane tickets. Located an hour and a half from Tokyo on a secluded hill with an idyllic view of Lake Kawaguchi and Mt. Fuji, the resort recently opened as—in their own words—“Japan’s first glamping resort.”

Designed by Azuma Architect & Associates, Hoshinoya Fuji is comprised of minimally decorated cabins, shifting all of the focus to the majestic view of Mt. Fuji from each room. A floor-to-ceiling glass window and door in each cabin streams in natural light, while a balcony with a fire pit allows guests to make the most of their time outdoors. The rest of the resort keeps with this theme too: The dining hall offers indoor and outdoor seating and is situated overlooking a red-pine forest, and the activities offered include walks through Aokigahara Forest (also known as the “Sea of Trees”), canoeing, and horseback riding. All the magic of the outdoors with the amenities of a hotel? Hoshinoya Fuji just moved to the top of our must-visit list.
