The Riverside Drive Bridge Home in Los Feliz

It’s no secret that homelessness is one of the most pressing issues the state of California and the city of Los Angeles face. While the city we call home works to open more shelters and bridge-housing facilities, the demand continues to rise. To help combat the number of people sleeping on the streets who can’t wait for housing to be built, Mayor Garcetti launched a new plan called A Bridge Home, a series of temporary facilities in different neighborhoods throughout LA.

Last week, Los Angeles city officials broke ground on the latest homeless shelter under the initiative, located at 3210 Riverside Drive in Los Feliz near Griffith Park. When it's completed, the coed shelter will provide beds for 100 men and women experiencing homelessness. The site will also include bathrooms and showers, communal space, storage facilities, an area for pets, and offices where shelter residents can meet with counselors and social workers.

Following our work with the Gardner Library Bridge Housing Facility in Hollywood for women transitioning out of homelessness, AETHER is once again working with the city on this project slated to open in June. This time, we have set out to raise money to help furnish the shelter’s communal space and outfit it with amenities the men and women may need as they transition back into the workforce. If you’d like to get involved, head to our GoFundMe page. Every little bit makes a difference. Stay tuned for more details on the project’s progress.
